Twenty First Century Charter (21CC) - Commentary issued
The Twenty First Century Charter is intended as the beginning of a conversation, a wider engagement on ethics and values for our current time. The co-founders, David Jackman of The Ethical Space, and Cameron Butland, also from Grasmere - biographies attached -have issued a commentary showing some ways in which the Charter sheds light on our common challenges and our shared opportunities.
The Charter can be signed following its launch on 13th October at The House of Commons.
Walker Review - formal challenge frameworks
The Walker Review brings forward sensible reforms for corporate governance in the finance sector, although the focus is top down and could benefit from a stronger emphasis on developing ethical culture across organisations and the sector. Some of these recommendations exist in the Singapore Code of Governace for Banks, issued by MAS in 2005. It will be interesting to see how the 39 steps integrate with the Combined Code and the FRC 'Principles of Stewardship'.
The Ethical Space comments on the FSA Retail Distribution Review (RDR)
The Ethical Space comments on the RDR. The long awaited proposals by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) put ethics on the map for retail financial services, seeing ethical practise at the heart of professionalism and competence. The FSA has held firm on some difficult principles and the industry needs to be setting out its strategy and starting changes now.
