The Big Society

The Big Society launched 19/7/10 is supported by the BS8904 draft national standard for Sustainable Communities - see the Sustainable Communities page here and find how the framework under development can help encourage and draw together community initiatives. A practical pilot is taking place in Grasmere, The Lake District.

The big society concept is also in line with the principles set out in the 21st Century Charter - see 'Seeing things Differently'

FSA focuses on ethics

Recent FSA Consultation Papers place an emphasis on ethics and indicate that firms and individuals will have to demonstrate their professional status and integrity in the future. 

 


Ethical investing rises to £9.5bn

Investing in ethical and green retail funds has reached £9.5bn says research body Eiris - see http://www.eiris.org/media.html#marketstats2010

This represents an encouraging increase in individual value based decision making. This form of engagement is one example of putting values into practice.


ICAEW - corporate governance

Ethics Codes - starting out

Ethics codes can be very useful for setting out our values concisely and helping others to understand and use them. However, they are starting point and not an end in themselves. The Ethical Space focuses on how such codes form one element of a co-ordinated ethical framework.
